§ 250-9. Discharge of waters over certain temperature.

  • Water or other wastes heated to over 140° F. shall not be discharged into a public sewer or into a plumbing system to which water closets, bathtubs, lavatories or other household plumbing fixtures are connected. The exhaust blowoff, sediment or drip pipe from boilers or heating plants shall be of cast iron or wrought iron galvanized and shall discharge into the top and above the line of discharge of a suitable closed tank or condenser, provided with a relief pipe of at least three inches in diameter, extending to the outer air above the roof. The tank shall have a three-inch minimum waste with 24 inches' minimum seal trap and shall connect to the house sewer; when blowoff tanks discharge water at a higher temperature than herein permitted, they shall be provided with a cooling device which shall reduce the temperature to less than 140° F. before the same is discharged therefrom; provided, however, that where the volume of such water is so small that, in the opinion of the Director of Water and Sewer Operations, it may be discharged safely into a sanitary sewer or sanitary disposal system, the Director of Water and Sewer Operations may issue a written permit thereof, revocable on five days' notice.
